Body care is Self care

Looking after the skin on our faces is second nature to many, but your skin’s needs don’t end at the neck. Creating healthy skin on the body has many benefits – and not just the aesthetic! Scientists at UC San Francisco and the San Francisco Veterans Administration (VA) Health Care System think skin health may be linked to body-wide inflammation associated with numerous signs of ageing. The conclusion they reached in a clinical pilot study was that properly caring for the skin with a moisturising cream may lower inflammation levels and potentially reduce the risk of a number of age-related conditions.

As we age, we experience a low-level of inflammation—dubbed “inflamm-aging”.  This age-related inflammation has been linked to skin changes as well as serious chronic diseases, including Alzheimer’s disease, cardiovascular disease, and diabetes. Scientists theorised that the inflammation must come from an organ big enough, that when affected by very minor inflammation, initiates a detrimental cascade for the whole body. Skin is a good candidate for this because of its size, as we age we start to increasingly see dermatological symptoms like itchiness, dryness, changes in acidity, texture and repair ability. It could be that very minor inflammation in the skin elevates systemic inflammation because the skin is such a large organ.

Researchers measured inflammatory markers implicated in age-related inflammatory diseases. Findings showed using the cream reduced the presence and effect  of these markers compared to both the participants’ levels before, and the levels of similarly aged adults who did not use the cream. Using the cream lowered inflammation levels enough to suggest that rejuvenating the skin can reverse  system wide “inflamm-ageing. Decreasing inflammation simply by treating the skin dysfunction seen in aging could have profound effects not just on skin, but also health.

Three signs of body inflamm-ageing that you may be familiar with are cellulite, sagging skin and lack of protein repair (Stretchmarks and scars)

Cellulite is a common skin condition affecting both men and women.
Identified as enlarged and stagnant fat cells that strain against the connective tissue beneath your skin, making the surface of skin look lumpy and puckered/dimpled, and can also be caused by  collagen strands tightening, pulling the skin down, with the bumps or nodules being the result of fat cells being compacted.  So, cellulite isn’t just excess fat, which is why very lean or toned people can also present with cellulite. Consistent inflammation also contributes to cellulite, impairing the body’s natural support systems.

Stretch marks develop when our skin stretches or shrinks quickly and scars can be the response to a trauma/abrasion on the skin. The dysfunction in collagen/elastin lifecycle causes the collagen and elastin, which support our skin, to rupture/fray, or over/under produce proteins, and as we age, these changes no longer repair efficiently and inflammation ensures a continuing degradation.

Sagging, or lax skin is seen when skin loses its “snap back” ability. Damage to the collagen and elastin synthesis/growth or breakdown cycle can result in skin that no longer seems to “fit” our body. As we age, this is commonly seen on the  underside of upper arms (think batwings), above knees, on inner thighs and in the neck area. When inflammation is present, collagen and elastin become further impaired, worsening the appearance and reducing repair mechanisms.

Juvenate ReSculpt Body is a Cosmedical grade formula designed to target the multiple mechanisms described above, while also reducing inflammation and leaving the skin texture velvety and smooth.

Containing a marine ingredient that improves body tone and redefines the silhouette by reducing abdomen and thigh contour, arm sagginess, and decreasing body weight. It also reduces double chin and facial contour, helping create the appearance of a slender neck and a more defined V-shaped face. It mimics the effect of endurance training with great results that are increased when combined with physical activity. Think of this ingredient as your secret “personal trainer” in a bottle!

Also containing a compound that helps prevent collagen breakdown, supporting the firmness and elasticity of skin. It cleverly does this by up-regulating genes involved in the strength, texture and health of skin, while also down regulating stress-responsive genes.

Our Cosmedical  grade ingredients provide strong antioxidant activity in response to UVB, anti-inflammatory effects and protect skin against oxidative stress and inflammation.

Studies show an impressive lift in sagging skin recreating  as the skin’s physical tension is restored.

Clinical studies show improvement in density of skin with +31% restoration of the mitochondrial network of collagen/elastin producing cells.

ReSculpt Body also contains ingredients clinically proven to address metabolism and systems of skins in a unique way. Utilising the cell’s own natural detox channels  to detox and support energy production naturally, in both fat cells and collagen producing cells.

By enhancing the fat burning capacity of cells as well as reinforcing and restructuring collagen and elastin – we get a win/win for targeting cellulite, and also strong benefits in restoring sagging skin and targeting scars.

Body care Strategies:

Your Skin Therapist will likely have conversations with you about certain lifestyle habits that can help improve the appearance of your skin:

  • A commitment to applying homecare as directed. Consistency delivers results!
  • Sleep! Regular deep sleep is when the body naturally repairs most efficiently.
  • Manage stress. Fluctuating and erratic cortisol and insulin levels are a breeding ground for inflammation.
  • Regular Exercise: Engaging in regular physical activity, including both cardiovascular exercises and strength training, can help tone the muscles and reduce fat accumulation.
  • Healthy Diet: Maintaining a balanced diet rich in fruits, vegetables, lean proteins, and whole grains can contribute to overall weight management and reduce the likelihood of cellulite formation and inflamm-ageing.
  • Hydration: Drinking an adequate amount of water helps to flush out toxins, improve skin elasticity, and maintain healthy connective tissues.
  • Avoiding Smoking and Excessive Alcohol Consumption: Smoking and excessive alcohol consumption can weaken the skin's elasticity and contribute to cellulite formation.
